What changes street to street in Los Angeles
Place changes the plumbing here more than it changes the customer, and it does not change along city boundaries.
Most sites in this trade publish a list of neighborhoods. A list of names tells you nothing about your house. What changes from one street to the next is what the house sits on, who owns the pipe under the road and what comes out of the tap, and none of those three follow city boundaries.
What your house sits on
On a slab, the pipe runs in or under the concrete. Finding a leak takes equipment, not a flashlight, and reaching it means opening the floor and putting it back. Many postwar tract houses are built this way.
Raised over a crawlspace, the pipe runs under the floor in the open. Somebody can get down there and see all of it, which is usually why the same repair is a smaller job here. Older houses are more often built this way.
The era of the house is the first thing we ask about, because it is the fastest route to this answer when you do not already know it.

Who owns the sewer under your street
The City, a county district, an independent city, or a septic system. Which one it is decides what permit applies and who may dig in the road, and it changes block to block, not suburb to suburb.
In the City of Los Angeles the lateral from the house to the main belongs to the property owner, including the part that runs under the parkway and the street. That is the single fact about sewers here that surprises people most.
What is in the water
Water is harder on one side of this city than the other, which is why one water heater is full of sediment at the same age another one is clean, and why descaling intervals that work elsewhere do not work here. It also has a lot to do with how fast an old galvanized line closes up.
